The UPDATE statement is used to modify existing records in a table. The SELECT statement is used to retrieve data from one or more tables.
To update records based on the result of a select query, you can use a subquery in the WHERE clause of the UPDATE statement. Here’s an example:
UPDATE my_table SET column1 = ‘new_value’ WHERE column2 IN (SELECT column3 FROM another_table);
This will update all rows in “my_table” where the value of “column2” is found in the results of the subquery. The subquery selects all values from “column3” in “another_table”.
Note that the subquery must return only one column and one row for each record being updated. If it returns multiple columns or rows, you’ll get an error.
