Regarding your query about the scientific validity of climate analysis on the trade-offs between carbon stocks and habitat quality, we acknowledge that natural conditions do play a role in determining these trade-offs. However, due to data limitations, we were unable to incorporate explicit climate variables in our analysis. Instead, we relied on land use data as a proxy for ecological conditions, which has been widely used in similar studies (e.g., Maes et al., 2016; Burkhard et al., 2012). Nonetheless, we agree that it would be valuable to explore the role of climate factors more explicitly in future research.

Regarding the credibility of our results on the trade-off between carbon stocks and habitat quality (Table 5 and Figure 6), we used rigorous statistical methods and conducted sensitivity analyses to ensure robustness. Additionally, our findings are consistent with previous studies that have reported negative correlations between carbon stocks and habitat quality (e.g., Raudsepp-Hearne et al., 2010). However, we acknowledge that there may be other factors not accounted for in our analysis that could affect these trade-offs. Therefore, we have included a discussion section highlighting these limitations and suggesting avenues for future research.
