One month after the patient’s admission, a gradual improvement in symptoms was observed in the limbs, trunk, and abdomen, leading to intermittent disconnection from the ventilator. Electromyography conducted on all four limbs revealed multifocal peripheral nerve damage characterized by early axonal injury. Notably, repetitive electrical stimulation showed no abnormalities (Table 2). Additionally, head magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) combined with magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) exhibited no evident abnormalities (Figure 1).
To address the condition, aggressive plasma exchange therapy was initiated. The patient underwent one session every other day for a total of five exchanges. Remarkably, on the day of completing the fifth plasma exchange, there was evidence of finger movement in the patient’s extremities.
