By controlling the crystal interfaces, inclusion of nanocrystals, and introducing holes with different characteristics, researchers have been able to control the deformation mechanisms and improve the strength and energy absorption efficiency of lattice structures. The use of multi-scale modeling and analysis has also allowed for a better understanding of the influence of defects on mechanical properties. These findings can be applied to the development of new materials with improved performance in various applications, such as aerospace, automotive, and biomedical engineering.
